Details

'Ard Ohio' is a powerful athletic horse with tremendous jumping ability and a trainable temperament. He was purchased in December of '98 having passed his first inspection that year as a 2 y'old in Holland. He is from a young family being the first progeny of Kwando.

Ard Ohio is doing his early education in flat work, cross country schooling and showjumping shows towards his performance testing.

sire;     Iroko
'Iroko'  A magnificent jumper from a superb sport horse lineage. At his performance test Iroko was described as a very typical riding type stallion, with a lot of blood and quality. In Jumping he proved to rank amongst the best of his year and received 9 for free jumping and 9 for jumping under saddle. He was reserve Champion 'coming stallion' as a 6 y'old. He won the 1.30m finals at Leeuwarden and in Wierden at 7. Now Iroko jumps internationally with a great deal of success with Peter Geerink for Holland. He won a 1.50 m. class at the International show of Leeuwarden 14th-16th October 99 and was second in the Grand Prix (1.60m.) of Zuidlaren on the 28th-31st of October this last year.

Iroko's first offspring were born in 1994. A son of Iroko finished 3rd in the World Championships for dressage at Arnhem in 1999. and another son has just been approved.

'Iroko' is a son of 'Pilot'' (winnings DM 1.7 million) who claimed a top ranking in the German jumping index, a sire of numerous Grand Prix showjumpers including 'PS Priamos', 'Everest Showtime' and many more.

Iroko's dam is by Bengale, whose progeny have earned more than half a million DM in sport. One of the most promising Pilot sons is Pinocchio, whose granddam is a full sister to Iroko's granddam.

21.10.2000  Iroko won the Grand Prix in Leeuwarden (Friesland)

dam;   Kwando
Kwando gainind very high marks in her performance test, her sire 'Voltaire', is a world famous International Grand Prix showjumper and leading sire. Voltaire was responsible for the highest number of progeny in both the Atlanta Olympics and the World Equestrian games in Rome, far greater than any other stallion in the world. Many of his offspring are competing successfully at Grand Prix level, both in showjumping and in dressage.

Progress  (regularly updated)
Early November'99 Ohio is being broken at the moment and is riding out around the roads. His loose jumping is superb and appears naturally careful with horrendous scope.

16.01.2000 Ard Ohio jumped at his first show, Cavan Equestrian Center Indoor. He rode an easy double clear round, to our amazement as it was only his fourth time to jump under saddle! All we had to deal with, was a rather exuberant warm up.

25.03.2000 After a break this was his 2nd show. Again at Cavan indoor where he jumped another very good double clear.

We will not compete Ohio again until later on in the summer as we want to give him the time to mature.

22.09.2000 Cavan Indoor, Ohio's 3rd show. Class 20 for 4 year olds judged on technique and style, in a class of 95 horses Ard Ohio finished 3rd with a stylish clear round.

24.08.2001 After a busy stud season again, today Ard Ohio went to Neal Fearon, who just arrived back from his successful period in Holland.

31.08.2001 (pictured here) 2nd in the 5 y'old class, Cavan Show.

17.02.2002 Our first show, Ohio had a beautiful double clear in the 1.10m class in Cavan with Neal, going better than ever. Much to our relief as he was rather 'above himself' at Eccilsville stallion parade the week end before. A bit of time with Neal plus a change of bit had a lot to do with it. (video available)

14.04.2002 Mullingar outdoor show where Ohio and Niel had a double clear. From here he came back home to his awaiting mares where he will stay at Cherrymount and go to shows at the same time.

(taken from the home page) 3/7/03 Ard Ohio's very first progeny, the filly 'Highdell Decota' out of an Appendix Irish Draught by Uibh Fhaili 81, qualified for the RDS Dublin Horse Show today in the loose jumping. She is very good, owned by Fiona Crowe and is now infoal to Douglas. Ard Ohio only had two mares that year and really only has his first crop of 3y'olds next year, so we are thrilled.
